William Winstone - Director

Since 1994, William’s brought his distinctive approach as an executive coach and performance psychologist to both business and sport. His approach emphasises the power of purposeful, productive relationships. This has been central to his success as sport psychologist with Team GB at the Macau preparation camp for the Beijing Olympics, as well as in facilitating team development with the Environment Agency and Natural England.

As an executive coach, William helps his clients develop their relationships with themselves, their teams, and the larger organization. That means creating a space where people can explore what’s really going on and find new solutions – within themselves and their organizations.

It’s an approach that’s worked at the Royal Shakespeare Company, helping NHS Chief Executives build their personal resourcefulness in high-pressure environments, and when he supported Mercury Health’s board and senior management team during their rapid growth. He’s also taught coaching skills to senior civil servants in the Cabinet Office, BERR and Brighton and Hove City Council.

William keeps his connection with elite sport through a range of projects with UK Sport preparing for London 2012. Among other things, that means mental skills training for the GB rowing team’s next generation, as well as a range of athletes in sports including golf, tennis, sailing and premiership football.

William has a first degree in business studies, a Masters degree in sport science, and is an accredited psychotherapist and sport psychologist. He was Head Tennis Coach at a North London club for 14 years, leading a team of coaches and a highly successful development programme. He is accredited to use the Harthill Leadership Development Framework, the Myers Briggs Type Indicator, and the Apter Motivational Style Profile.

My passion for performance starts with finding out what I can achieve of myself. On the tennis court the sweet satisfaction of a shot powerfully executed, a new skill learnt, a match successfully negotiated. Professionally, I’m passionate about helping athletes and their coaches develop and then deliver under pressure & in business, in helping senior leaders to build their relationships with themselves and the key people they work with. I’m also passionate about the growth that follows for the individuals and the growth in performance for the organisation.
