Sport Psychology
Performance1 can help you achieve your dreams in sport
Reaching and maintaining an optimum sporting performance is as much about harnessing and using your thoughts and emotions as developing technique and fitness. How successfully you play this inner game will shape how well you perform in training and competition.
We help athletes achieve their sporting goals through individual support and support for the team that backs an athlete including coaches, partners and parents.
Team Support and Development Programme
Performance1 has a long history of supporting teams at international and Olympic level, from Jonathan Males’ and Hugh Mantle’s work with the British Olympic teams at Sydney and Athens through to William Winstone’s work supporting the British Canoe Slalom and Sprint teams as they prepare for Beijing.
All team development work involves supporting and challenging the individuals within the set-up, as well as building the structures and relationships which connect all the team members.
How we do this:
- By developing more specific team goals and by getting an overview of specific problems.
- By developing communication styles and skills within the team.
- By addressing bottlenecks within your team system and overcoming the ineffective relationships which can cripple a team.
- Through development of the team’s performance profile from both the coaches’ and the athletes’ perspectives, enabling a detailed picture to emerge of how all parts of the team view themselves and each other
High Impact - Ongoing Involvement:
Whilst our work creates an immediate impact, we don’t believe in quick fixes, or short term solutions. We build robust, enduring relationships with our clients and athletes, meaning that we build an in depth appreciation of their team system, and provide trusted and effective responses whatever the challenge.
Individual Athletes
Committed athletes often face challenges and problems in their performance in training and competition. These may be entirely sports related, but issues from other aspects of life can and sometimes do affect performance on the sports field. Through a Personal Performance Plan developed with you and for you, Performance1 will use and teach the performance enhancing techniques best suited to you personally. Our aim - like yours - is to build self-reliance and your ability to achieve your potential under pressure.
You will learn:
- How to access your Ideal Performance State. IPS is the combination of emotional mental and physical factors which, when present, enable us all to produce our best performances.
- Ways in which you can develop goals for more focused motivation.
- Development of 'Imagery skills' - your ability to visualise yourself performing well before and during training or competition.
- Methods to enhance concentration in your sport and your life.
- How to challenge negative internal dialogues and create new ones you can believe in.
- Techniques for managing stress in competition and injury
