Master class – Dealing with Power Players

Do you think of yourself as someone who doesn’t like to play politics?

Ever feel frustrated that your perfectly good ideas are overruled?

Do you find it difficult to negotiate with people who are more senior or more ‘powerful’ than you?

Are the unspoken, behavioural rules in your organisation hard to fathom?

Do you wish you could be more influential?

There is plenty of data about organisations to show that the best ideas often don’t come to fruition because people don’t know how to exert power positively. This session will explore the different forms of power that exist in organisations – it’s not all about hierarchy – and why power isn’t a bad thing in itself: the ethical dimension comes when you decide how to use the power that you have. Through practical exercises, we’ll help you use the currencies of power to best effect and build negotiating skills that will produce results. And we’ll look at the ways in which influence actually works in organisations.

Our Master Classes are an ideal opportunity to develop specific, practical solutions to typical workplace challenges. With no more than eight people in the group, you’ll be able to learn from other senior people facing similar challenges in a range of organisations. Karen Ellis leads the Master Class (see her work here) in a lively, engaging and insightful style.
