Great Film - Så som i Himmelen
Så som i Himmelen (As it is in Heaven) [DVD]
As we watched this last night, my 15 year old son came in and said, "not another subtitled art-house film", and promptly disappeared. We watch a lot of films about music, and this was set in a small Swedish village where a world famous maestro conductor (Daniel) had retreated to recuperate. All of human life is here, and as Daniel reluctantly is dragged into helping the local choir, the secret passions, hopes and pain of the villagers start to unfold.
I found the combination of optimism and realism inspiring. At worst art house movies are too clever and obscure for their own good, at best they tackle subjects in a way that engages with life head- on and take us into places beyond our normal comfort zone (eg Festen). Have a look.......if you can get hold of it - its on LoveFilm.
